June 2006

I’m back. It was one year ago today that I left, but this isn’t like I am picking up where I left off. People ask me when I was ever going to update my blog. I always tell them I no longer had a blog. It was still up but there was no promise or plan to actually write anything in that eyesore. I finally got what I wanted though: a real blog but without ads and with complete control for me. I’m using WordPress and my family webspace that I set up (Sandersonland.com). I decided to move all of my old blogs (successfully) so they are on this new site. One note though, I had to manually add these archives so I tried to get most links and formatting in there but I paid little attention to entries about movies with all the proper italics on the titles.

A few things I want to do with this space:

  • Do normal blog stuff
  • Have some recurring pieces (Monthly Mix tape, music/movie reviews, etc.)
  • Talk about projects or ideas I have
  • Get ideas from friends
  • Write good (I was ruined by the not-so-well written but intriguing book Eats, Shoots and Leaves. One thing I want to work on as you can see from above is sentence structure. I would wager that that colon I used is the first colon I’ve used in the middle of a sentence in years.)

A few things you should know about me:

  • I say one thing and will do the other oftentimes.
  • I will probably write poorly and in spurts.
  • I will claim that I won’t get political but I will.
  • I make a lot of cultural references and though I hate when people over hyperlink blog entries, I will link to a lot of my references (because they are too obscure and cool for you to comprehend).
  • I use the word hate as a word of constructive criticism and mean nothing harmful by it.
  • More to come, I’m sure.

Anyway, thanks for reading. It will be interesting to see what comes of this attempt. It’s in PHP which I do not know but have wanted to learn. This is a good way I reckon.

If you are interested in writing entries but don’t want your own blog, I’m entertaining the idea of having other characters, be they other real people or just other characters in my head. The capitalist in me would find it interesting to create a “media conglomerate” of all my friends and their blogs. That way it would seem like you were reading more because there would be more frequent updates to one site. Move over Gannett. I can bake a pretty mean pie chart too.

Monthly Mix May 2006 cover

The Title: In May, we spent several of our nights watching the Suns play in the NBA Playoffs. One particular night we drove up to Cedar Rapids to a B-Dubs and watched a good chunk of the game. Jayne and I liked to comment on how Raja Bell was the good looking one and Steve Nash was one ugly guy. My take on Leandro Barbosa besides being a speedy mofo was that he reminding me of “that kid”. You know, the one in 5th or 6th grade that wore “whopperjawed” (more…)
