In moving to Iowa City, I was shocked to see the number of homeless and beggars in the town. From what I understand, this is due to Iowa City’s more homeless-friendly atmosphere. It may not be as accomodating as it could be but in a fairly liberal town I would imagine the sympathy in people and programs is a little greater for the homeless. So you start getting used to seeing homeless or street people, which ever we would call them, I’m sorry I don’t know the proper way to address it.

But that is really not my point. I don’t really have a point. It’s more of an observation.

My friend Pete mentioned Audioscrobbler to me at the end of last semester, I think. I had heard about it and always wanted something to do just what it does, but for some reason, I never really got around to working on it. Finally, I started playing with it and set up my own user.

What Audioscrobbler does is keep a running tally and database of statistics from your computer music listening habits. (more…)

Earlier, I professed my love for statistics. I used what may have appeared as an exaggeration to drive home a point. I mentioned that I sometimes may eke out a statistical tear. Right now, I am on the brink of tears with some more of my social security research.

I was rereading the article and came across some quotation from the Cato Institute. Sometimes, I wonder if this institute is in fact headed by Kato Kaelin himself (and he doesn’t know how to spell his name, which is likely). (more…)
